Tree Planting at Lake Fairfax : APRIL 2008 - WAFC purchased and planted 10 Pin Oaks, 10 Red Buds, 4 Deodara Cedars, & 4 Scarlett Oaks at Lake Fairfax Park to thank them for providing such a wonderful facility for our club. You should notice all the Pin Oaks along the outskirts of the fields where we play, close enough to provide shade for folks watching games (these are fairly large oaks--but we won't see much shade until they have a chance to grow a little).

Thanks so much to all the WAFC volunteers that came out to help dig and plant, and the Lake Fairfax staff! (Special thanks to Kevin Fisher and Carl Kirtley for setting this event up, and to Kevin Leclaire for all of these great photos)

2006 - National Park Service Trash Pick-up : Around 35 WAFC players helped pick up trash on National Park Service property covering areas from the Lincoln Memorial up to Haines point. 50+ bags of garbage were hauled away. The NPS provides WAFC with the Polo Fields, JFK Fields, and Anacostia, so this was a way for WAFC to provide a service back to NPS.

Video: Boys from Sderot, Israel learn frisbee in DC : 7/21/08 - Shana (Sue) Wallace, longtime WAFC player and volunteer, as well as former world champion, teaches an ultimate clinic at The Chabad of Fairfax day camp every summer. The Jewish religious group Chabad brought 110 Israeli boys from the worn torn city of Sderot, Israel this summer, and spread them around 11 different day camps across America to give them a break from their difficult lives. The Chabad of Fairfax had 10 of these kids attending their day camp, and local news station WUSA 9 just happened to do a story on them when Shana was there teaching ultimate. WAFC donated discs to The Chabad of Fairfax day camp, which the boys promised to bring home to Israel to help spread the game of ultimate.
